Dokumentation Führerbunker
Changelog, Build 1.0

We are pleased to announce that with today’s update, Dokumentation Führerbunker has officially reached its full release with version 1.0. This marks the culmination of several years of rigorous beta testing and continuous refinement, conducted under academic supervision to ensure historical accuracy, functionality, and user experience.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to our dedicated beta testers. Throughout this extensive beta phase, we have worked diligently to expand features, improve usability, and refine every aspect of our interactive documentary. The valuable insights and feedback provided by our dedicated beta testers have been instrumental in shaping Dokumentation Führerbunker into the comprehensive resource it is today. Thank you!

The 1.0 release introduces a range of upgrades and enhancements, building upon the foundation established in the last public beta:

  • Upgrade to Unreal Engine 5.4

Dokumentation Führerbunker now runs on the latest stable iteration of Unreal Engine, enabling realistic graphics, advanced lighting effects, and optimal hardware compatibility. (https://unrealengine.com)

  • Full W,A,S,D Controls

In the final phase of the closed beta, we experimented with the W,A,S,D control scheme as an alternative to teleport locomotion for the standard screen-based (non-VR) version. With the 1.0 release, full support for W,A,S,D movement is now available. For those who prefer the original teleport locomotion, you can easily switch back via the settings menu.

  • Controller Support (Meta and X-Box)

You can now navigate the bunker using your META (Oculus) or Xbox controller—a particularly convenient option when launching the app in VR mode.

  • Map Feature / POI Index

In the standard screen-based (non-VR) version, you now have access to a map feature that provides a comprehensive overview of the entire bunker. Simply press ‘M’ to open the map, then use the mouse wheel to navigate through the available destinations. Once you’ve selected your desired location, confirm your choice with a left mouse click to instantly transport there.

  • Camera Feature

You now have the ability to capture your own photos inside the bunker. Simply launch the user-camera feature from the main menu and follow the on-screen instructions to take pictures.

  • On-Screen Help / Tool Tips

We’ve integrated extensive visual aids and clear directional prompts to better explain the application’s functionality, making it more intuitive and user-friendly.

  • Launch Diclaimer / Content Warning

We’ve implemented two disclaimers: a content warning and an informational notice encouraging users to consult additional literature. As the application focuses exclusively on the events within the bunker, we recommend exploring further historical sources for broader context.

  • Many Visual Details and Enhancements

Given that our virtual reconstruction was featured in various TV documentaries, we have made several content improvements and expansions. These include increased texture resolution and a more detailed refinement of historically verified elements within the interior design of the facility.

We hope you continue to enjoy the application and find it both engaging and informative. Your feedback has played a crucial role in shaping its development, and we sincerely appreciate the ongoing support and enthusiasm from our users. We remain dedicated to updating and expanding Dokumentation Führerbunker and will keep you informed about future updates as soon as they become available.
